For 50 years, communities across the developed world have faced perpetual housing crises.

Today’s crisis is largely characterized by a lack of affordability. Rampant rent-burdens, evictions, foreclosures, and homelessness are all indicators of this crisis. Ensuring that all households are able to attain the housing they desire requires working together to abandon bad policies, adopt new approaches, and embrace fresh ideas. We cannot afford another half century of crisis.

DEMOCRATIZE DEVELOPMENT is a nonpolitical movement dedicated to promoting comprehensive responses to housing crises. Through research, advocacy, and education, this endeavor seeks to change the narrative around housing by broadening the conversation beyond conventional ways of thinking about housing. Only by equipping legislators, institutions, organizations, and individuals with the proper tools to address the housing crises, can we chart a new course towards success.
